The two pension initiatives have been suspended but not ended. CalRTA will continue working to keep the initiatives from future ballots.
CalSTRS developed a summary of how proposed pension attack initiatives would effect current and future CalSTRS members. You may read the summary at the calrta website. Members should be aware that this issue may come back on future ballots.
The message from CalRTA is simple DO NOT to sign pension initiative petitions.

As we keep in mind that pensions are under attack, check out the STRS Watch
information at CalRTA .

Division 1 Information
NEW INFORMATION FROM CalRTA
The National Commission on Fiscal Responsibility and Reform, the bipartisan group created to address our nation's fiscal challenges, will hold its next meeting June 30 in Washington, D.C. CalRTA has formally requested an opportunity to testify during the meeting. We would address Social Security solvency and Social Security equity.
We believe the Commission will provide an opportunity for retired educators to advocate for Social Security fairness through repeal of the Windfall Elimination Provision (WEP) and the Government Pension Offset (GPO).
The June issue of CalRTA Contact outlines the Commission and our current letter-writing campaign. See page 4.
Closer to the meeting date we’ll learn if our request was granted. Watch for updates on this and other actions in our fight against the WEP/GPO, our top Federal priorities.

CONGRATULATIONS BILL
We were happy to hear the news that Bill Goldmann received this prestigious award from CalRTA. Bill volunteered his talents and time for years as Legislative Director for Division 1 and as the Area VIII
Director for Legislation. Bill always kept our Division up to date on the issues and he kept us actively involved with our letter writing campaigns to state legislators on those important issues. Thank you Bill for all your hard work.
